Questions, answered
The questions people ask about Build A Squishy, with short answers. If yours is not here, there is a contact form in the app's About panel.
- Is Build A Squishy free?
- Yes. The web version and the iPhone and iPad app are free, with no ads, no accounts, no coins and nothing that runs out. There is one optional one-time purchase, Squishy Deluxe, which adds extra shapes, colours and backdrops; it is behind a parental gate and the free game never asks you to buy it.
- Do I need to download anything?
- No. It runs in your browser at buildasquishy.com. On an iPhone or iPad the native app is the better way to play, and that is free too.
- Does it work offline, or on a school Chromebook?
- Yes. Once you have opened it once, the web version keeps working with no internet connection, including behind a school filter. The app works offline from the start.
- What is a virtual squishy?
- A squishy toy on a screen: a 3D shape that dents where you press it, slowly comes back, stretches when you pinch it, and makes the quiet sounds its material would make. Build A Squishy lets you design your own and then squeeze it.
- Who is it for?
- It was made for kids around 8 to 11, is simple enough from about 5 with a grown-up nearby, and is played by plenty of teens and adults who like squishies. The App Store lists it in the Kids category.
- Is it safe for kids?
- There are no ads, no chat, no accounts, no profiles and no trading with other people — the traders are characters in the game. Nothing a child does reaches anyone else unless they choose to send a squishy, and a sent squishy carries only its recipe, never a name. The full policy is on the privacy page.
- Is it on Android?
- Not as an app yet. Android phones and tablets play the web version at buildasquishy.com, which is the same toy.
- How do I send a squishy to a friend?
- Tap Send. A squishy becomes a link, a card or a short video with its own sound. Opening the link on any phone or computer rebuilds that exact squishy, and if the friend has the app it opens straight into it.
- What are the weekly gifts?
- Every Monday a new squishy is waiting in the app — the same one for everyone that week, so friends can compare. The calendar follows the seasons, with 60 different gifts across the year, and every gift is kept for good.
- What is Today’s Squishy?
- A small daily challenge: three words, a new set every day, the same for everyone. Make a squishy that fits them and send it. There is no streak and no counter; missing a day costs nothing.
- Is there a squishy game I can play online for free?
- Yes — this one. Build A Squishy runs free in any modern browser with nothing to download: make a squishy, squeeze it, then take on challenges, trade with squishy collectors and collect a weekly gift. The game page walks through all of it.
- Is it a squishy simulator?
- It is a real 3D soft-body simulation, not a video or a flat picture: press and the squishy squashes and bulges, let go and it springs back and settles, and each material behaves differently. The 3D squishy page explains how it works.
- Can I buy squishies here?
- No — nothing is sold here, and we are not a shop. If you were looking for squishy toys to buy, this is the next best thing: design your own in a few taps and squeeze it right away, for free.
- What can you make?
- 77 shapes, 81 colours, 34 finishes, 42 insides and 31 bits, in any combination, plus 23 challenges to earn the rarer ones.
- Does it have ASMR sounds?
- Yes. Every squeeze, poke and stretch makes a sound that comes from what the squishy is made of, so a jelly, a chocolate bar and a frozen one all sound different. It is quiet by design.
- What does it collect about me?
- Nothing personal. The web version counts anonymous feature use so we know what people enjoy; the app sends only anonymous crash reports. No names, no emails, no location, no tracking across other apps or sites.
